Shaneika Dilka, PhD, LCDC,
Graduate Intern
Who am I?
I am a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and LPC Associate based in Abilene, Texas, passionately committed to supporting individuals navigating the complexities of addiction, mental health challenges, and difficult life situations. My mission is to deeply understand your unique journey and partner with you in discovering pathways to a healthier, more fulfilling life.
I began my work and training in mental health as an Army Mental Health Specialist trained at Fort Sam Houston in 2004 (JBSA-Fort Sam Houston). I have been privileged to serve military service members and families in different capacities as a federal employee in mental health and substance use programs. The majority of my professional roles have been in academia, where I have served as faculty in graduate and undergraduate psychology and business programs since 2008. After navigating personal health issues, I refocused my professional goals from full-time academia and began providing substance use counseling as an LCDC in 2022. The significance of this work motivated me to pursue further licensure to provide more comprehensive services to the clients I work with daily, and I obtained my LPC Associate license in 2025. I am a mother, grandmother, and dog mom. I enjoy the simple things in life and find nothing more fulfilling than creating memories with those closest to me. Reading by a calm body of water is a favorite pastime that energizes me for the days ahead!
What is counseling like with me?
I collaborate closely with you to understand your unique circumstances and develop personalized plans that align with your goals. A person-centered approach is crucial, allowing you to explore and cultivate your strengths to benefit you in your current and future situations and improve functioning and overall well-being. I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and use this approach when appropriate, along with other therapeutic modalities based on your needs.
